Senator Rodney Tom is serving his second term in the Senate after serving two terms in the House for constituents of the 48th District. The district extends from Lake Washington to Lake Sammamish and includes Redmond, Medina, Bellevue, Clyde Hill, and the Points communities (Hunts and Yarrow).
Tom serves as Majority Leader of the Senate Majority Coalition Caucus, a bipartisan group of state lawmakers who believe in budget sustainability, creating an economic environment where jobs are plentiful and small businesses thrive, providing a world-class education system through reforms and enhancements, governing collaboratively to protect our most vulnerable while prioritizing the needs of middle-class Washingtonians, and setting priorities for state government and holding it accountable.
A graduate of Newport High School in Bellevue, Tom got his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and a graduate degree from the University of Southern California. Tom is also a Realtor and is active with the March of Dimes in Seattle.
Tom is an avid outdoorsman who has climbed five of Washington’s volcanoes, competed in four marathons and has ridden in the Seattle to Portland bike ride. Tom and his wife, Deborah, live in Medina with their daughter, Nicole, and son, Dylan.
